Synopsis

Welcome aboard the first manned mission to Mars! The eyes of the entire world are watching…

On Day 191, a catastrophic event occurs, threatening both the mission and the lives of those on board. Mattie, a brilliant psychiatrist, has shepherded the team on this mission, and begins to realize that the once tight team is starting to deteriorate under the life or death pressure. She realizes some crew members are becoming untrustworthy. Mattie begins to struggle with keeping the team together, as her own fragile mind, haunted by the young son she left behind, begins to destabilize. She realizes that she is facing a terrible sacrifice for a chance to return to her son.

I want to like this project. The desperation of the human relationship folly, simply in the context of space, seems as if it would draw suspicion instead of ticket sales...sorry.

Sadly the mixed footage used for the trailer is very confusing. I hope the script has more potential than the trailer indicates...
I did like the exiting of the atmosphere shots. There is definitely a sense of tension and conflict.

Interesting premise, especially with all the talk of space travel to mars in the coming years, not sure if this will further entice people to travel to the stars or push them to keep their feet firmly planted on the earth.

how did this even make the top 10? we dont need a million dollar blaire witch in space.....if they are able to boost their cinematography and production value its going to require a bunch of costly sets to build and its audience is going to be inherently limited to the sci fi crowd. there doesnt appear to be any human elements in this film??

Aw man I think this would be great! Spooky, the trailer managed to give a very chilling vibe that is great for sci-fi thriller/horror! Unfortunately I would hope for better production value in order to let audiences really become immersed in the story. Without verisimilitude, the mood that is meant to be conveyed wouldn't resonate very well with audiences.

As I said in my original review the graphic work will be your primary focus. And those elements such as the use of the Soyuz will have to be changed. Although I can accept a lower budget graphics I can not accept the usage of the Soyuz in the final product of the film. This is primary because the Soyuz is an earth bound spacecraft. Plot inside the film is very much so an over done plot in recent years and even the so called "uniqueness" you have mentioned in your missions as this being the first mission is not unique. There have been numerous films in the last decade as being the first mission to mars. This plot cannot be any more original than those films and for that reason I give the final rating of 5.

Really excited to see more from this director. Interesting concept for a film. At first I was concerned that it may be difficult for you to manage to produce this movie on such a small budget, but you've proved through your speechless video and cheap tricks video that you're able to accomplish quite a lot with very little. Quite impressive what this team has been able to accomplish so early on in this competition. Just wanted to add that the other thing I love about this trailer is the suspense that it develops, and how it ties it to reality in a mysterious way. It definitely has a Hitchcockian feel to it.

My Official Review of Red Horizon: A riveting story about keeping the peace while on route to Mars by a Psychiatrist may lead to on-board disaster threatening the whole crew. Coming to grips about their mortality is something we will go through in our lifetime. A Strong Team of Talent with Writer/Director Chris along with Social Media & Marketing Frances and Executive Producer Andrea show passion in their story made for people about people. A Science Fiction Thriller that will leave you hanging in your seats.

If I hadn't read the synopsis first, I'd have had no idea at all what the heck was going on in this film. The trailer never really got to the meaty parts of what created the conflict on the ship, or that there really was any for that matter. There was a lot of really thin allusions, but again to what I have no idea. Some of the scenes ate up too much trailer time, and did nothing to further the plot line to the viewer.

This trailer has such a huge potential. After talking with Kris Booth, he confirmed me what I thought from the beginning. It is not just a science-fiction movie, that will be a real psychological-thriller-action movie with in background a Mars exploration. Men of all kind have traveled discovering the world. From Christopher-Columbus to the space conquerors, human being has always challenged himself defying death to discover the unknown. Whether it is in the research or ourselves through the psychology or the new worlds through explorations, the effects are basically the same: Bringing human to its own limits. As an actor myself, from Quebec but living now in Halifax, I can predict this movie a bright future. Kris Booth is definitely a smart and talented director. One of my biggest wish is to see this movie made. My second wish would be to be part of this movie. Seriously, would it be something more realistic than seeing a French speaking astronaut be part of the Canadian team. We never know what the future can predict. Just in case, here is my demo-reel. For the rest...like we say in French...À la grâce de Dieu (to the grace of God) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WojOE7SHF2w

The cgi effects (ie earth from space, the view out the portal) are cool but they don't serve to illuminate the plot for me at all. I guess the filmmakers were trying to increase tension with the quick cutting but instead it just ends up feeling like a bunch of disjointed, unconnected stuff that just looks cheesey. Upon reading the blurb I'd say the trailer doesn't suggest this is the point of the movie.

Sci-fi films are hard on a restricted/low/no budget film. I think it is just hard to create a convincing future/technology without the people, resources, and time to do them justice. So kudos for making the effort. The obviously low budget effects kind of took me out of the 'story' of the trailer, but if the final film has a strong story, characters, and acting, I think those low budget limitations could be overlooked - as long as they aren't too severe. I wish we had seen a bit more of what is descried in the synopsis in the trailer to hook the audience better.

It's a fun idea for a movie. Feels like aliens, red planet, and a few others but the win there is that they're all hits and fun to watch. I appreciate the use of internationalist space technology (Soyuz spacecraft, canadarm tech, etc) which is how I expect all future missions would be.

I don't get why there is a glass forge on a spacecraft though, or a very heavy and inexpensive hammer.

I can see why some found this confusing, and wanted more acting/dialogue - but actually as a teaser it's cool and has potential. The mixed footage and arty shots worked for me. The effects were weak but that's why they need money. Also has to be careful to avoid space-horror conventions from other flix and video games.

Dang I love stories like this. I wish you had shown a bit more of the characters though, and the low budget really shows so I'm not sure it would look that great as a feature.

Seems like an interesting concept. The teaser pulled me in from the beginning. Lost me a bit in the multiple cuts and I would have liked to see more of the characters/dialogue in the trailer...

Seems like a solid concept. Your reliance on having an actual set versus CG backgrounds also makes this feel like it could be successful given the prize money. I'm interested in seeing another trailer, this time showcasing some of the crew interactions aboard the ship. Keep up the good work!

The premise as written is way better than the trailer, which does not convey any sense of the crew's fate. I would like to see confrontation, drawing of straws, or something that draws me in to the life-or-death choice each character faces.

Simplicity at its BEST! Something that I think has been lacking in the competition. You have giving just enough where I wanna and will come back for more. There isn't much I can critic because you haven't given me much. The concept is solid, has been told in one for or another yes, BUT with the 6 manned crew you have a lot of room to have fun and a lot of oppertunity for suspense and thrills. This looks like it is gonna be raw and bloody I love it and the main thing I think you guys are going to have to keep in mind is the budget. Write for the budget, please go practical sets, limited CGI to a handful of exterier shots maybe just what the event is. Once you establish space and the ship, we don't need to go outside unless the characters need to go outside and I think that will free up your budget to build a great and beautiful set that we will be spendin the majority of the film in. Also, play it loose with your characters. Don't fall into the trap where you think the hero needs to make it out of this alive or at the very least unscathed. This feels like a character driven place where you could build them up in the first act, break and I mean BREAK them in the second, and we'll just have to wait and see who makes it out in the third. And that is what is going to keep the audience on the edge of our seats.

It would take a huge budget to make this passable. There are shots and dialogue that could be done well, and would help the trailer to help convey the plot and creative intentions, they are glaringly absent.

I love a good sci-fi drama, but I feel like I've seen this one already. Multiple times. Space is a wonderful place for exploration because it is right in front of us, but still so far away. Mars has been filmed about so much, it would have been nice to see how the film would do using a different planet. We have also seen many films about the psychological effects of long term space travel. Can we get away from that? Take it in a new direction? This film feels like a grab bag of multiple other space dramas, and for that reason I don't see it's merit.
