Synopsis

We all have secrets that we’ll take to the grave, but death isn't going to keep this one quiet.

With their parents on vacation, Amanda and Jeremy Parker are left in the care of their self-loathing, but loveable, gay Uncle. After an eventful New Years party, Uncle Jordan finds himself interrupting his sister's vacation with the news that Jeremy is dead. Amanda struggles to keep quiet as her mother, in search of answers, descends into a well of grief. Ultimately, Jeremy's best friend, Alex, and the Parker family are forced to confront the truth.

A darkly sexual and heart-wrenching tale of grief, acceptance, and the pursuit of love.

Matthew McKinney is a Calgary based actor, writer, and director. He is the owner of 2150 Creative and is a graduate of the University of Alberta’s BFA Acting program. His first movie was a 20 minute remake of Lord Of The Rings in Gr.8, and this most recent endeavour, Rabbit, recently underwent an immersive screenplay performance and workshop.

I'm primarily an actress in Theatre and Film in Calgary, and I got involved with Rabbit by playing Amanda Parker in the Immersive Staged Screenplay Reading performed in December. I fell in love with the story and now I'm using my addiction to social media and charisma to get this movie made. Bring it on, interwebs.

Nice acting. Pretty good cinetography. Neat use of music (but needs a mix, with lower music level). I'm not sure I get the story - from the trailer. Sexual coming of age story? Thriller? Supernatual? I'm not sure what kind of movie I'd be getting into when I walked into the theatre.

Very creepy. Not sure what's going on plot-wise, but all in all the trailer conveys uneasiness well (which for me means the comedy aspect seems out of place). Also, that tree gets a lot of action!

I went to the screenplay workshop that they did to showcase the script/dialogue. It was well written and seemed very involved! The trailer is quite in keeping with what I have heard from the script. I'm very excited to see the final movie product!

Had a hard time deciphering what this movie was about through the trailer alone... Without the summary I would have been totally lost. Seems like a neat idea and there's some great camera work, but a tighter focus when presenting your material is a must.

The logline says this is the story about a boy but the trailer focuses on the girl. And I'm not sure what the story is here. Some nice shots though.

Tonally, this is all over the place. Is it a quirky disfunctional family trope, or something darker with some magical-realism thrown it? I'd ditch the dysfuntional family-bit - or reduce its focus - *way* too overdone in independent films and instead focus on the more mystical/fairytale inspired bits.

Looks kind of cool, but other than the basic concept the trailer was too vague. Cheesy acting in the van scene, but that could be a good thing. Basic shots, some cliches too- cool, but not really anything new.

I like the concepts and ideas of this film. The quirky humour intertwined with a tragic loss is a very real way that most families would cope with with the circumstances.

It's the music which stops me from rating it higher. It's good, but doesn't add to the ambience of the film. It feels disjointed when in context of the greater film. Not disjointed in a good way, just disjointed like it doesn't fit

Visually, the trailer looks beautiful. My only criticism is that the plot is very unclear, but perhaps the ambiguity is intentional, in which case ignore me. Nice work, can't wait to see it!
