AJ J. Posted 5 months ago
I miss you guys. I wish you were still in the top ten. I really was looking forward to more because I relate to your story. My girlfriend lives in Toronto and I in Vancouver
Joelle L. Posted 5 months ago
haha, cute! really liked it.
Bernardo C. Posted 6 months ago
All this focus on the production design will be pointless if theres no other technical skills to match. Sure u can spend all your money and time on beautifully composed shots with some very interesting backgrounds and lines. But shouldnt the focus be on the actors and the narrative?
Valerie M. Posted 6 months ago
Yeah ok... I'm with you:)
Lily K. Posted 6 months ago
I really liked that despite the lighthearted tone, this was also very informative.
Alex C. Posted 6 months ago

Dug R. Posted 6 months ago
This isn't exactly a new approach, but you actually did a superb job of embodying the style you are trying to mimic. Better than most attempts at this kind of thing.
Nathan G. Posted 6 months ago
Really like the old newsreel approach to this mission.
Karyn T. Posted 6 months ago
Ha ha, i love the use of black and white filming and making this look like an old fashioned film. Great use of lighting in the trailer.

Frederick D. Posted 7 months ago
Looks like those old cheesy documentaries, but for once, we learn something! Good job!
Cruella D. Posted 7 months ago
Love Love the black and white vintage feel. It has the feel of one of those old newsies.

Nellemarie H. Posted 7 months ago
Cute concept - and informative!
Dali V. Posted 7 months ago
Fun and unique way to get your point across.
Jason L. Posted 7 months ago
Great ideas, absolutely, but in the interest of constructive criticism, don't make that classic mistake of thinking that production design can compensate for (or worse, is more important than) story. Also known as "The Tim Burton Effect". Good luck!
Lindsay A. Posted 7 months ago
Nice!
Bryce M. Posted 7 months ago
Keep up the good work Team LD!
Tyler S. Posted 7 months ago
Very unique!
Kevin S. Posted 7 months ago
awesome
Jose H. Posted 7 months ago
I also find that production design comes in very handy while making a movie. Especially if it's already built for you! :)
Alex B. Posted 7 months ago
ha. awesome
sonia g. Posted 7 months ago
So charming - I (almost) enjoyed this as much as your trailer. I adore the escalator shot that includes my favourite architectural gem in Toronto as its backdrop -- the Allen Lambert Galleria, designed by architect Santiago Calatrava. Well done!
Marian C. Posted 7 months ago
want to see this

Julie H. Posted 7 months ago
Ha! This is fun to watch AND informative. Nice job!
Nickolas B. Posted 7 months ago
Great job, I enjoyed watching that!
Melissa W. Posted 7 months ago
This was a really fun way to present the challenge. I especially liked the focus on being resourceful - because it's something we can apply in every day life, even if we aren't aspiring filmmakers.
Peter C. Posted 7 months ago
I liked the focus on being resourceful and how to make a production with less money. However the narration was hard to follow and make out with the poor quality mic pick up.
Emily H. Posted 7 months ago
the best one!
Wendi N. Posted 7 months ago
good job.
Stefanie C. Posted 7 months ago
very fun
Isabelle G. Posted 7 months ago
Great work!
Iris B. Posted 7 months ago
Fun to watch.
Dan R. Posted 7 months ago
nice concept. great video! but not many people are going to work for free in a feature. and you def won't get free production design for a feature either.
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks! The director (me) is a production designer thus the entire film has been written and planned with these principles and design in mind. We also have several production designers interested in the project. :)
Amy-Leigh B. Posted 7 months ago
Very cool and fun! Good work!
Dave R. Posted 7 months ago
Production design? More like production perfection!

Helen M. Posted 7 months ago
Very entertaining
Jordan D. Posted 7 months ago
Great video.
Clayton P. Posted 7 months ago
You guys nailed the style and made a highly entertaining little video! Although a lot of people want to see how you solve a specific problem, I think that I get the point you're trying to make. You're saying that you're compensating for a low budget by using solid fundamentals to create a big budget look and feel.
Sherri L. Posted 7 months ago
Cute.
Maikol P. Posted 7 months ago
I feel as though "cheap tricks" are meant to make the audience wonder "oh so that's how they did it." There really is no 'trick' to how the couple went up the escalator. Those are simply fundamentals of cinematography. Perhaps you could have used a different example or scene to fully illustrate the creative ways in which you would have solved difficult problems.
Tom J. Posted 7 months ago
I find it takes a lot of finesse and tight-rope walking when going for a hammy and dated comical tone like this, with a high risk of falling flat, but you really pulled it off. Great mix of your own style with 50's and 60's marketing and design. You're getting my fan votes!
Negus S. Posted 7 months ago
i like the film feel and the projector noise
Cameron L. Posted 7 months ago

Cam L. Posted 7 months ago
Loved the 50's educational film feel of this... but it could have related back to the assignment a little bit more?
Elie K. Posted 7 months ago
Very well done. Smart and funny as well.
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks so much Elie!
Patti D. Posted 7 months ago
Cute, clever and well done but I came away feeling like it was a teensie bit off topic.
Katie T. Posted 7 months ago
Kind of misses the point of the assignment.
Patti D. Posted 7 months ago
I kind of thought so too Katie...
Peter S. Posted 7 months ago

Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks John!
Joelle W. Posted 7 months ago
The visual design seems to be well thought through, nice work!
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks! One of our primary concerns is production design and cinematography. Nothing cheapens a film more than bad production design & cinematography.
Natalia N. Posted 7 months ago
I enjoyed the 'old school' approach to the video but was kind of boring as a cheap trick. It was just shots of different outdoor locations which are free to everybody.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Great design and presentation!
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks so much. We're happy you enjoyed it. :)
Douglas H. Posted 7 months ago
Very inventive and great use of existing space

Very cute! Fun style but also informative! Well done.
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks so much for the support :)
Daylen M. Posted 7 months ago
You guys didn't really understand the mission. The mission was supposed to explain how you saved money and reduced costs, what techniques you used to fit your budget, instead you gave us a minimal production design lesson.
Kelly G. Posted 7 months ago
A design lesson on techniques which saved them money and fit their budget...
Daylen M. Posted 7 months ago
They listed the following principles: Colour, Line, Form, Light & Shadow, Texture, Sheen, Placement, Contrast, Kinetics. Then pointed them out in only one shot without explaining them or even giving any time to inform viewers how they introduced these "techniques." Not very instructional for a "design lesson."
Brenda T. Posted 7 months ago
Amusing
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks for the comment Brenda!
Catherine M. Posted 7 months ago

Wow. A video with a boat-load of production design schooling about production design. Genius! Well done, ladies--you guys are setting a pretty high precedent moving forward. Grinders!
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Kelly! Not sure I'd go that far but we're very happy with our video and it's spawned some new ideas for us that we're really excited about. Production design is a passion of mine so this video is close to my heart. :)

Love the old-timey look! Team West
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks so much. Great job on yours too! I always love the look of old cars.
Matt C. Posted 7 months ago
Really nice video! People don't realise that production design is much more than props that are in direct line of sight; it's a much more holistic practice. Good work!
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
Agreed. Production design is one of the most misunderstood disciplines in film. It affects so much of what we see on the screen and yet some filmmakers spend so little time thinking about it. For us it's a huge part of our thinking and storytelling.
Keith H. Posted 7 months ago
Love the video, girls. Good luck on the rest of the contest (Team Van Gore).

Love the black and white. I could see you girls as secretaries in the fifties! You just need the old stlyle typewriters.
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
haha. Thanks. We're glad you liked it. While we have access to several 50's typewriters we'll choose our laptops any day of the week. :)

Really excited to see the creative approach this time around. I was a little bummed that your first mission was mainly a straight forward approach. Bravo from part of the 'Slay to Rest' crew!
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks so much for your comment. We really appreciate it and good luck to you and your team!
Joseph T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Rose, you as well!

I would remunerate my house if I had these skills. Or if I knew what remunerate meant. Fantastic and classy mission accomplished.
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
haha. Well it takes years to learn when, where and how to aptly implement these principles so don't feel bad. We're glad you liked the video. :)
Michael W. Posted 7 months ago
Really fun take on optimizing production value! Great job!
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
