I got the feeling the trailer was linear, and this love story just ends badly, which I don't think is really a big seller for love stories. I probably wouldn't go see this film, mainly because I wasn't connected to either character very strongly, therefore their plight was of little concern to me. Perhaps if they were better developed in the trailer, the viewer would become more interested in the outcome.

I absolutely love the idea of this film as so many people can relate, and many will find themselves in the same situation. I would pay to see this in theatres; the only thing I would change in the trailor is the "skype" shots, because of their low quality, and it is a bit annoying. However, without it, the audience may not get that it is over the computer and that relationships like this can become foggy and depressing as you are only seeing a blurred image of them all the time. I am torn about that part. But awesome work on your project! I am sending good luck vibes to you guys :)

Personally I"m not a big fan of chickflicks. I think there are so many that it is hard to create new ones. I feel like this had been done before and I think that too much was revealed in this trailer alone. If she ends up pregnant I feel like that would be a major spoiler that has been included in the trailer. Other than that, Good luck :)

This movie definitely has some aspects that appeal to me - I like the idea of romance and how it fits in to our modern world. Relationships are changing as time and technology impacts our ability to get/stay in touch with other people. Having said that, I would like to see more development around how the relationship begins and how it is in the early stages. The beginning of the framework is here, but I felt the meet-cute not distinctive enough. For instance, the statement that he isn't getting up until she says yes is romantic, but undermined by the underwhelming location and lack of preamble to his proposal. These considerations meant the proposal then seemed thrown together at the last minute and therefore not meaningful or moving. Maybe that's just because it's a trailer, or maybe it's intentional and just not my taste. I would also like to see a bit more development of the characters - I didn't feel like I was given any incentive to like them or be drawn to them. Again, maybe that's because of the time limit in the trailer, but if the characters aren't likeable, then I can't engage with them and don't care what happens to them. Perhaps this is an intentional approach, but I don't get it in the way I usually do in movies. There was a lot of depiction of the couple being close, but not to many or not enough sound bites of the experiences that usually drive on screen romances. It reminds me a bit of the premise of the internet series Casual, and I would very much like to see the movie if these are done intentionally as an attempt to illustrate some artistic principle or if they were addressed and fleshed out in the full length movie. The subject matter and title offer ample opportunity for this to be a really good movie and I wish you all the best in the competition and on the project.

This topic has been done before, however there are usually men involved in the making which seems to result in a shallow depiction. I liked how it was shot, however I felt this trailer didn't have enough substance to it, it didn't show enough story or give a real idea of the depth of the film. We get they're in love, I just thought it focused far too heavily on showing them kissing in different places and not enough on the actual core story/conflict of the film, it didn't hook me with anything that would make me want to see it. Technically very beautiful though, and I loved that shot of the city!

Looks like an ambitious take on a much more 'real' aspect of relationships compared to your average romantic film - especially stuff like facebook, webcams etc - how we interact with each other through those is so much different to starting and maintaining a relationship face to face, so I'd be fascinated to see how it turns out. Great work!

Love the concept! A theme many people can relate to. I want to know more about these characters and their story. I can't predict the outcome, so there's a hint of the unknown and some mystery there as well. Much like real life it seems to hit the darker notes as well as the bright spots. Love the cinematography. I also like the way it highlights two of Canada's diverse cities in a beautiful way. I would go see this film.

After watching your pitch, I upped my rating. I'm hoping you do make something that isn't just a formula chick flick. The trailer hints at less, but your pitch hints at more so I'm rooting for more. Show us your stuff, women. Give the "three cool guys" teams a run for their money.

Trailer is well produced but fails to distinguish the movie from many similar other formulaic types and fails to even make clear that the characters first meet online. It's hard to judge chemistry without seeing more of their interaction, but I didn't really feel like they had chemistry, and that can be a problem for a romantic comedy.

By far the best looking project of the competition I have seen thus far, and the one I would want to see the most. The shot of the two characters kissing while going up the escalator is so cinematic! This film seems like it would be the good version of "Like Crazy" if you were to make it. I really hope you win, I would love to see this film if I could. Congrats!

*Edit*
I just watched your Pitch and I also want to say that it's the only Pitch so far that makes me want to see the film more, not less. I really like what you're film and work is all about, and I agree that the kind of voice you are offering cinema is missing in a big way. If you don't win, I would crowd-source contribute to this project getting made anyway!

In the interest of building a national industry, I think movies like this are important. I dig the urban specificity of this project and the way it plans to bridge at least two regions in a common story.

And I've noticed a lot of criticism about the premise of the film. The films cited are not good films! So, have at it "Long Distance" production team, the challenge to you is just to make a better film. I'm sure you can.

I really like the idea! It's hard to capture a realistic, yet unique and deep emotion on film. Fantastic filming and theme! I've noticed that the strongest indie films have the most believable acting and realistic pauses and tones in speech, and that category sort of falls a bit here (for example, on the video camera there is an awkward and strange pause paired with less believable acting). Nonetheless, very great work! I'd love to see how you put this together and the final project! I believe in you! :)

It's the rare love story that honestly conveys the giddy joys and sorrows of two people besotted with each other. No other recent film has so deftly captured the act of falling in love or so artfully interwoven the more practical efforts of maintaining that connection.

The handheld shooting style, quick edits and improvised dialogue are ideally suited to this enthralling story. Director Rose Lagace employs a host of filmmaking devices — tight close-ups, jump cuts, rapid fades — that work beautifully to communicate the idiosyncratic details that link two people romantically.

Lagace's elegant filmmaking is key to the appeal of the film, but it would never work as superbly without the wonderfully natural, believable performances and powerful chemistry of the lead actors.

Long Distance gets every detail right, from the film's pace to his choice of romantic obstacles. So many movies throw up contrived, easily overcome stumbling blocks. But this one makes supreme sense.

Anyone who has ever endured a long-distance relationship will feel the movie's truths. Distance and professional opportunities can easily, with casual cruelty, undermine romantic bonds.

Even as it captures the intoxication of young love, the film is smart and clear-eyed. Its insight into human behavior will leave a powerful impression guaranteed to stir discussion as well as emotions.

PS. I only give Casablanca 10, Cheers!

Looks good i guess (but with camera's today everything looks good). Cold fact, this is a played out genre and not a hint of anything new or fresh was laid out in this trailer. The actors are spectacularly unlikeable and archetypal. Also, the writing is uninspired and cliched. But i guess i am not stating anything the other comments haven't stated before...just my two cents.

Oh, I would like the idea of this movie better if they lived further away fro each other. 338 miles doesn't set the stakes very high for me. Try 6000 miles. Also, it would be better if they fell in love in person and not online. Call me old fashioned but when people fall in love online, I was wonder if they're really in love with their imacs. You know what's a good LDR movie? "Like Crazy." It was good but like crazy depressing though. I hope your movie has a happier ending.

Beautifully shot. Framing tends to be pretty flat, though.
Scorecard - Premise: Unoriginal. Situations: Cliche
Example 1) "I'm not getting up until you say yes." "Yes!" (tears of joy).
Example 2) "I don't know. She's different."
Example 3) Girl gets pregnant.
Example 4) You know they're in love because they're walking in a crowded place and she spins herself around (she's a free spirit!)
1) seen it
2) seen it
3) seen it
4) seen it.
Acting: 70%.
Advice: you're trafficking in a well-worn, hackneyed genre here, so be original. Be fresh. There is an audience for the eternal retelling of the boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back formula, sure, but the true creative finds a new angle. Don't be afraid to be novel. Why wasn't SHE the standup comic? Why doesn't she ask him to marry HER. Can you find something less tired than pregnancy (seriously, it's 2013, not 1953) as your tent pole plot point? Maybe someone hacks one of their accounts. Maybe explore the vulnerability of a MODERN long distance relationship and the new problems, challenges, unexpected benefits and catastrophes in the new world of connectedness. Does distance really matter now? And if so, why? Are we moving toward a time when it won't? These are much more interesting questions to explore than how to deal with an unwanted pregnancy.
To sum up: it's shot really well... But why?
Hope this helps.

Rose L. I think as a filmmaker in a competition like this that is open to immediate audience reaction you shouldn't be so hostile to negative criticism.
Everything I've read that is negative have valid points. This story has been told many times and you seem to not bring anything new to the table, nor have a response to that other then calling people stupid.
A lot of your positive comments, which read as spam bots as well by the way, mostly talk about your cinematography and music. That is usually a tall tale sign of a bad film with a bad story. I think instead of attacking people and using that opportunity to give yourself a 10. Work on the film. Don't waste time writting letters. Show us this something new you keep talking about and truly deserve to win. Don't steal an opportunity like this from people who are actually showing us that they're trying. www.facebook.com/shane.segreti if Rose L. needs proof I'm real and will stop slandering me.
Tina V. I don't know the filmmakers either and nothing invested in this other than I love competitions like this that support independent filmmaking. Truth be told I had high hopes for this project as I am a huge fan of rom-coms. But you have to admit you've seen this premise done before. And that's all I was trying to convey. I completely agree with your position on spamming whether its for or against a project. As you can tell am very open and if there is a way to prove this is my one and only account I will gladly post it.

Last night, after meeting two of the wonderful women behind this film, I had high expectations. This story is extremely comparable to my current situation. Starting the trailer with a Skype conversation - something that we long distance relationshipers are accustomed too - is brilliant. It is both touching and haunting. Thousands of people today owe their gratitude to the inventor of Skype, and yet it's also the most frustrating invention ever. It keeps relationships, such as the one portrayed in this trailer, together and at the same time never lets a relationship develop further. This is a film I want made and must see. It looks smart, is relative, and is shot beautifully. Its safe to say the trailer I was told about exceeded my expectations greatly (not that I was ever underestimating the talent of these two women). I only wish I could been a part of its production. Good luck ladies!

This film does not look original. It looks as though it is depicting a type of long-distance relationship that is common among many people. The best part about this trailer is the song. Good luck though!

This is clearly a thoughtful, elegant project. I look forward to the opportunity to see what this film can be - the cinematography especially looks like a love song to the beautiful cities in Canada while still focusing on the human elements. I'm excited about this project!

The trailer is shot beautifully, however the story seems to be in high rotation. And, unfortunately the trailer doesn't showcase the writer's work very much.

I believe that if you are aiming at trophies and recognition, movies about love may be the way to go. Reality is that the general public is dominated by people who prefer adrenaline over love on their movie screens. It's not where the money is at, it's where the champagne and caviar is. I prefer lager beer and popcorn! Good luck tho! Cheers!

GREAT cinematography, awesome song, the actors are completely natural and clearly have chemistry. I could watch that silent "Fuck you" over and over all day. Great job guys--one of the few trailers that illustrates the basic understanding of how to create art.

I truly think that this trailer has great potential to turn into an amazing film. I've noticed how it's been said that it's predictable, but if you read the synopsis, it does say that she gets pregnant. That is not the whole point of the film though, it is to see how both characters deal with the situation and to see what sacrifices each of them would make. Also I've noticed how it's been said that it's a "typical chic flick." There are so many movies that have generally had the same idea of a story line, how many have come out where something goes wrong in the world and there is just a bunch of shooting and craziness? In the end I would rather see a movie that is something I can relate to instead of one that isn't.

I feel like this group did an amazing job on the trailer and I am hoping for Long Distance to hit theatres!

Too predictable, you basically gave us the whole movie, what's the point of making the whole thing now? The only reason you are getting high votes is because it's a chic flick! of course it's going to get tons of ratings from sappy girls who love sappy movies and lots of kissing. This storyline is overused any sappy girl can think up a plot like this. Hate it

Loved the trailer. We've all experienced long-distance relationships at some point in our lives so it is something that appeals to a wide audience. The cinematographic and editing quality of the trailer is excellent and the story line keeps your interest as to what will happen. Well done. Looking forward to seeing the end result.

Romantic films are something that generally goes over well because people who have been in, or ar in relationships can relate, and those who are not can fantasize. This story feels tired however. The distance story has been played so many different times and needs to be adapted to make it interesting. Also, the trailer contained so much kissing and sexual content. Although I have nothing against sexual content in film, I felt the trailer contained so much that it turned me off of the film.

There is something so real and intriguing about romance films-perhaps it is because to love it something everyone is capable of. I believe to have your heart going in different directions is something only people who know true love can comprehend. This film looks to be the perfect combination of laughs and tears with raw love & emotion, and I can not wait to watch it in the theatres! The gorgeous cast have captured my attention and I am excited to experience Long Distance through them.

Concept that is omnipresent and super hot right now (Catfish, anyone?) yet has rarely been touched in fiction film - making for a very marketable movie. The demographic that goes to the movies the most will adore it since the story is HIGHLY relatable to this audience that has literally grown up and fallen in love online. And female central - something we don't see nearly enough of in film. Also has the potential to show off two very different and very remarkable Canadian cities.
