Andrew K. Posted 5 months ago
Awesome work. I think having the school already available to you will be super beneficial when filming on a budget
Kaitlyn G. Posted 5 months ago
This team has the skills to film a movie on a budget and they can do this with the assistance of the incredibly people at Templeton Secondary.
Kaitlyn G. Posted 5 months ago
The people involved in this film are resourceful and I have no doubt they will make $1 million go a long way
Zoltan M. Posted 5 months ago
Well thought out comments and explanations!
Erin W. Posted 5 months ago

It is really cool that you can get so many people to work so hard for free. That is good leadership.
kael v. Posted 5 months ago
Love the story and your crew. The production value is through the roof. Probably one of the most professional groups in the Cinecoup.

Kerri S. Posted 5 months ago
Amazing, talented, WOW! Not only will this film be under budget, but through your brilliant creativity and not needing so much special fx, your able to hit the mark with this. I am reminded of a little horror film in the past that only used a film camera shot real time, jumpy imaging and cost little and made millions! Grade Nine has it all! :D
Lisa B. Posted 5 months ago
I really like your guys style. And I truly believe that you can pull this off with your stellar crew!
Donald Y. Posted 5 months ago
Cheap tricks? I'd call it inexpensive filmmaking - and after many years of indy films, I can see this team has the skill to make a movie with the cast of excellent younger actors. This is the kind of project all indy filmmakers wish they could do.
Brenden K. Posted 5 months ago
This looks like it has a lot of potential :)
Mack B. Posted 5 months ago
Very proud. Keep up the good work fellas!
Sandra l. Posted 5 months ago
With talent , not a lot of need for money!
Julius G. Posted 5 months ago

Donald Y. Posted 6 months ago
This proves the ability to make a lot from a little budget. There is several great teams in the competition, but this one is one of the most serious contenders with the potential to go all the way. Good luck tonight.
Christopher K. Posted 6 months ago
I like how you mentioned it mainly being shot at the school, cuts down transportation costs. On a side note it looks like you guys all have a ton of experience.

John H. Posted 6 months ago
New shots? Like the kids
Ron K. Posted 6 months ago
I'm getting flashbacks, and lov'in it. Great work.
Jennifer C. Posted 6 months ago
This video does not talk about "cheap tricks". I cannot say that you succeeded in this mission when you neglect the purpose of the mission.
Dianh G. Posted 6 months ago
This is good
TeamJessie P. Posted 6 months ago

Cindy C. Posted 7 months ago
So cool.
Kyle H. Posted 7 months ago
Good stuff guys, your concept is strong, albeit not very original.I still think it looks great though and you'll do well.
Tah the T. Posted 7 months ago
Interesting. I'm not Canadian myself, but this could really be a neat film regardless.
Carolyn D. Posted 7 months ago
Kids are great - but they also cut down on the time you can actually shoot! Obviously necessary but your scheduling is going to have to be spot on!
Toby G. Posted 6 months ago
Very true! Though I must say the idea of 10 hour days is a film dream come true :)
Sharon R. Posted 7 months ago
What a strong team guys. I hope you guys make this film either way because I think it has the power to be a cult-classic, Canada style, like Strange Brew.
Hugh P. Posted 7 months ago
too much talking
Trish M. Posted 7 months ago
Well explained
Heather B. Posted 7 months ago
Tight writing, networking, contained sets, experience = CHEAP. Thank you for sharing your cheap tricks. Good Luck.
Siobhan W. Posted 7 months ago
Neat to see how you stayed within your budget...when the subject is kids, definitely the school setting is a no brainer
Chantie D. Posted 7 months ago
kids are great
Denise D. Posted 7 months ago
I agree with all you have said about what makes this film doesn't require expensive tricks it requires good actors, directing and filming.
Susanne G. Posted 7 months ago
insightful
Jeevin J. Posted 7 months ago
love these kids
Michael M. Posted 7 months ago
The concept itself is inherently resourceful--big picture thinking..
Jana S. Posted 7 months ago
Loved it! Looks super professional . Interested to see more!
Allen M. Posted 7 months ago
You guys have a lot of heart. You're absolutely right, this does feel like a Canadian coming of age story
Aniko K. Posted 7 months ago
Good stuff guys! You have an all around very solid project coming along!
Richard B. Posted 7 months ago
nice organization, great outcome
Monique M. Posted 7 months ago
this is one of my favourite contenders . it would be interesting to see what you could do with a million dollar budget!
Holleay R. Posted 7 months ago
Super fun. Looking forward to this movie.
Shaelyn L. Posted 7 months ago
Really good cinematography and direction of the young actors :)
Margaret S. Posted 7 months ago
The story and the performers really do seem to shine through in the ads I've seen so far. The examples of the school set and the other projects exemplifying their process seem to support their ability to put together a good product. I also like the idea of a true Canadian film that illustrates our creative talents.
Emersen Z. Posted 7 months ago
I'm a huge fan of this project. Keep up the great work and thanks for the tips!
Patrick G. Posted 7 months ago
you've definitely got a great story and some great talent - good mission!
Joan L. Posted 7 months ago
I can see where you can have production values for a movie of this genre. It's really all about the characters.
Kendall R. Posted 7 months ago
Definitely one of the best projects and teams out there. Your planning and execution is paying off. Nice job!
Brad D. Posted 7 months ago
Good glimpse into the cinematography and action choreography that goes into the film. Looks like a great team. What camera did you shoot on?
Toby G. Posted 7 months ago
Hey Brad, we shot on the Red Epic.
Colin T. Posted 7 months ago
You guys are really well spoken and know what you're talking about. This was very informative, nice job.
Jonny V. Posted 7 months ago
From the storyline to the camera work, everything you guys have presented up to this point has really shown your ability to get high production value for low cost. Strong work guys!
Meika A. Posted 7 months ago
Interesting but no tricks
Gregory H. Posted 7 months ago
It's interesting but kind of vague. Makes references to tricks but doesn't really explain any of them. Definitely interesting though.
Daniel F. Posted 7 months ago
Can really tell you guys are resourceful and smart about developing story, as opposed to production. Great job!
Chris F. Posted 7 months ago
It's amazing what you have at your disposal. Who can compete?
Andie Q. Posted 7 months ago
Certain stories lend themselves to a lower budget nicely. Nicely done.
Natalie H. Posted 7 months ago
grade nine is a little dated, I agree
Chris W. Posted 7 months ago
Grade nine is so 1995
Colin W. Posted 7 months ago
cool
Wes M. Posted 7 months ago
this just does not feel original to me, I feel like Ive seen this movie before
Tim T. Posted 7 months ago
Hard to give constructive criticism when sometimes you just have to appreciate a lack of special effects. Although saying stuff in the vein of a convergence of creativity does sound a bit pretentious! Haha. Good luck guys.
Julie C. Posted 7 months ago
Casting looks great. Also agree that you don't need a huge budget to make something great.
Tom H. Posted 7 months ago
is this cast locked in? chemistry seems to be there
Gord G. Posted 7 months ago
I find your film speaks to my interests,
James G. Posted 7 months ago
Good that you are using a strong and topical story and being realistic on keeping the location issues to a minimum.
Colin P. Posted 7 months ago
the convergence of your creativity is los on me as a cost effective tip, but you guys clearly know a thing or two about a thing or two!
Bernardo C. Posted 7 months ago
It is clear that u guys know how to make best use of the resources at hand. Love the fact that u are able to do it while maintaining a high production value and an overall really polished "feel".
Chris N. Posted 7 months ago
great use of resources, and smart keeping locations down to a minimum
Shawn B. Posted 7 months ago
Nice demo reel.
Jason L. Posted 7 months ago
Smart move to keep the story contained mostly to the school. That should help a lot. One thing you may not have considered...are your performers required to work a shorter day because of their age? Better make sure...good luck!
Bryce M. Posted 7 months ago
At the risk of being too on the nose, tell me someone in your camp is already in talks with BNL's publisher for the rights to the 'Grade 9' song ... for cheap. Something tells me those fellas would get a kick out of both your project and Cinecoup in general.
Alan J. Posted 7 months ago
The cast seems great. Looking forward to seeing more.
Lisa R. Posted 7 months ago
not really my thing could be better talk about "grade nine" not other films you have worked on
Michelle G. Posted 7 months ago
well done guys.
Jonathan M. Posted 7 months ago
What were some of the biggest hurdles along the way dealing with partners?i.e. funding partners
Seth C. Posted 7 months ago
Funding partners?? I wish! Me and Jay paid for everything we couldn't get for free. Which was mostly food and some pieces of wardrobe.
Zaid L. Posted 7 months ago
Nice work
Jac r. Posted 7 months ago
loving your work. seriously the most polished and funny of the bunch. thanks also for not murdering anyone in your film. seriously.
Jenna J. Posted 7 months ago
Good work.
Rob N T. Posted 7 months ago
good luck!
Di L. Posted 7 months ago
Look like you're ready to get this project going! cool
Lindsay B. Posted 7 months ago
Love your project - but I want to hear more about how you sourced this many great young actors, how much time you spent in casting & rehearsing, etc. These guys are some of your best assets - sell them too!
Seth C. Posted 7 months ago
We spent weeks hosting auditions sourced from Facebook,Craigslist, and high schools. We gave every audition about 10 min to see the range of the performers. All the auditions were taped and we reviewed them for hours. It was an amazing process and gave us access to a huge pool of undiscovered talent. These kids are what's going to make this movie a huge success.
Lindsay B. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Seth! Great to find out more about how you sourced these guys...they're amazing!
Alex B. Posted 7 months ago
good job!
Sandra W. Posted 7 months ago
looking great!! your pitch is great

Jennifer E. Posted 7 months ago
Excellent point about the setting. Love the young actors. Great job!
Warren B. Posted 7 months ago
Good work with the wardrobe & the old dnd books! Those editions look great.
Seth C. Posted 7 months ago
Those are the books I learned to play with, all of them come from my brother and our cousins. Classics!
Shelly A. Posted 7 months ago
Great vid, I can't wait to see this film...look forward to your journey!
Michael M. Posted 7 months ago
Missed the mark, everyone is trying to sell the fact that they have an amazing story, characters and acting!
Jen A. Posted 7 months ago
Looks great!
Rob L. Posted 7 months ago
Great concept
Trevor S. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome work
Julie H. Posted 7 months ago
I love the way your production relies on the actors -- more acting, less CGI is always way way better!!
James O. Posted 7 months ago
I agree that pre-production, story, characters and acting are where the real savings can be achieved. These are the things that make a film memorable and rewatchable.
Claudia R. Posted 7 months ago
Looks awesome
Victor G. Posted 7 months ago
Totally gnarly dude!
Melissa W. Posted 7 months ago
You guys totally sold me on your ability to make this an amazing project. And I wholeheartedly agree....what makes any movie awesome is the story - all the special effects are bonuses and trappings but you don't have anything if you don't have a solid foundation. It's great to see a project with that foundation and the teamwork/knowledge to make the trappings really work for them.
Peter C. Posted 7 months ago
The strength of our ..."a great story", figure it out early in the game and make sure you can really tell a story that will have an impact on your audience. On time is good, cheap is bad. Try well managed budgets and the use of your collective experience instead of cheap. Cheap can say a lot about the quality of what you are doing and i don't think that was your intention here. You guys did not do a cheap production, your were cost effective and worked well with limited resources. That was the collective minds at work. Nice work but please stop using cheap as a way to describe your work.
Wendi N. Posted 7 months ago
Nice
Aaron M. Posted 7 months ago
Good to see them all on the same page
Stefanie C. Posted 7 months ago

Love the variety in this competition. Very cool
Becky P. Posted 7 months ago
I love that this is a great story and not something that required special effects. You all seam like a great team!
Paul H. Posted 7 months ago
cool
Clayton P. Posted 7 months ago
This is a fantastic video! It really makes clear how this film can fit into a tight budget. It really comes down to the fact that it's a deeply human story that focuses on the people involved.
Thalia M. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome!
Sherri L. Posted 7 months ago
Looks great guys. Seems like you have a handle on the budget.
Tyson L. Posted 7 months ago
:)
Tom J. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome! While I liked your trailer and premise for your film, your Pitch and Cheap Tricks reassured me that I should be sending votes your way! Keep up the great work, will be keeping my eyes peeled for your future projects!
Gayle B. Posted 7 months ago
good use of resources and networking.
Connor B. Posted 7 months ago
Come at me Bro
Seth C. Posted 7 months ago
Now that's the look of a champion.
Negus S. Posted 7 months ago
would have been nice to see some cheap tricks
Joshua B. Posted 7 months ago
I just think it should be funnier. The timing seemed off.
Mital G. Posted 7 months ago
If the film required visual effects the Team would have the means to deliver, I'm sure. Having that much combined experience in the industry is a cheap trick as you can pull in favours from fellow professional technicians, film crew and other talent. I think the Team have this video spot on and their trailer, as well as their other mission video demonstrates their talent and drive to win.
Sam L. Posted 7 months ago
I've noticed that your team has bashed visual effects in both your mission videos so far. However, your project is a drama/comedy; visual effects are seldom relevant or prevalent within these genres. Why even mention it? It's like someone bragging about not giving their pet rat dog food because dog food is too fancy and expensive - it's not an informative statement.
I feel that your constant belittlement of visual effects is a passive-aggressive way to take shots at your competitors that are working with action/thriller/horror/etc genres. You should be focused on informing your fans of what your film brings to the table, rather than what it doesn't.
Also, I would liked to have seen some cheap tricks actually addressed in this video.
Jay R. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks for your input - We are all actually huge fans of spectacle movies action/thriller/horror/etc . We certainly don't mean to come across as snobby or harsh. We only wish to highlight the strength of our project.
Bo H. Posted 7 months ago
fancy stuff
Megan P. Posted 7 months ago
i am not drawn into this for some reason...
Cameron L. Posted 7 months ago
I am pretty amazed at the quality of this actually
Anne R. Posted 7 months ago
Hmmm.... see? This seems too fancy. Suspiciously fancy for this contest.
Jay R. Posted 7 months ago
Don't worry we are real - running with scissors - killing our selves. Thank you for the huge compliment!
Lucy C. Posted 7 months ago
Great job!
patricia s. Posted 7 months ago
where is the cheap tricks
Anne R. Posted 7 months ago
exactly.
Rachel L. Posted 7 months ago
keep up the good work!
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
I agree with the other comments. This project appears above this Cinecoup contest. But they missed the point with this Mission - Where is the cheap trick???
Mark V. Posted 7 months ago
Looks like you guys don't need to be in this competition if you already have the resources and budjet to make the movie.
Anne R. Posted 7 months ago
bis! it's all really suspicious.
Jay R. Posted 7 months ago
We shot the Trailer in one weekend with the help of friends - a feature is an entirely different animal.
Jason B. Posted 7 months ago
Using the school as an enclosed space definitely will help with the costs
Astra L. Posted 7 months ago
great video! Such a talented cast and crew!
Grayson W. Posted 7 months ago
I like you guys, your actors and your movie too, but it doesn't seem that "Brave", it seems like a film that would get made any day outside of the film accelerator. Or people can maybe just watch freaks and geeks. I recall an episode where they played D&D and a "freak" (james franco) joined them.
Ben S. Posted 7 months ago
D&D Mother-Father!
Jenny C. Posted 7 months ago
The right people with the right attitude and team spirit can make all the difference. Good luck with the competition!!
Panta M. Posted 7 months ago
Talent really does matter!!!
Tyler R. Posted 7 months ago
i agree that the great tallent adds huge value to the production. However, great talent is hard to find, seems like you did a great job at seeking it out. Kudos to the casting director
Jay R. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Tyler - we did all the casting ourselves using Craigslist and Facebook. being in a bigger city helps.
Suzanna B. Posted 7 months ago
Like the idea of looking at excellent talent as an aspect of great production. It's so important.
AChristine W. Posted 7 months ago
nice
Lori M. Posted 7 months ago
You don't need huge effects to tell a good story! Love the emphasis on communication.

Nicely done
Danny M. Posted 7 months ago
Effects aside, i can tell your film is story-based 1st. me likey.
Brad B. Posted 7 months ago
Good work guys
Mohamad M. Posted 7 months ago
Well done. Staying true to who you are, keeping it real and letting your story guide you. Ultimately that is what should determine the techniques and production choices. If they aren't serving narrative then what's the point. Good stuff.
Carley S. Posted 7 months ago
Looks awesome guys.
Maddi M. Posted 7 months ago
This looks Fantastic! cant wait for the next mission! :)
Adam K. Posted 7 months ago
This 'Cheap Trick' video seems like exactly what Cinecoup is looking for without pandering like some other groups seem to be doing.
Helen C. Posted 7 months ago
Great work guys!
Kerri S. Posted 7 months ago
This movie has heart and soul. It doesn't need fancy special FX or a big time orchestra. It's amazing and inspiring and thought provoking all on its own! Amazing job! Hope it comes to the Big Screen!!! :D
Christina M. Posted 7 months ago
Impressive how much you could do with such a small budget.
David B. Posted 7 months ago
Thats awesome! I am glad you pointed attention away from sfx!!
Joel T. Posted 7 months ago
These guys seem to have the most knowledge and skill to actually make a feature and have it be successful!
Daylen M. Posted 7 months ago
Cool, good job of thoroughly explaining your assets.
luke k. Posted 7 months ago
hated grade 9
Amy K. Posted 7 months ago
Your video explanation of how you could make this look professional on a small budget looked very professional itself.
Amy Z. Posted 7 months ago
You are such a wise and well put together group. A lot of writers and directors in this competition could learn a lot from you!
Brenda T. Posted 7 months ago
You helped me understand how this film could be made with a small budget.
Shannon P. Posted 7 months ago
I can feel your passion for the project.
Bobbie-Gene H. Posted 7 months ago
Mirza looks awesome.
Aiden C. Posted 7 months ago
Well done

Let's hope this gets made, regardless of the 1000000 bucks.
Derek C. Posted 7 months ago
Brilliant!!
Amanda C. Posted 7 months ago
the million dollars is offered but if you dont have to use the full amount its even more brilliant cause this is a fantastic film!
Tyler S. Posted 7 months ago
I agree with your tactic to shoot in a contained set to save time between scenes / less transportation. good luck!
Ann W. Posted 7 months ago
I can relate to this. I was bullied at school! BUT it only made me stronger! :)
Dianne S. Posted 7 months ago
Looks good.
Matthew S. Posted 7 months ago
It looks great but I don't really get how you are planning to actually make the film better with the 1 million. Which aspects will you improve most?
Lorette P. Posted 7 months ago
love this film. no sex, no violence. Also great cast.
Jamie M. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome!
Fernando P. Posted 7 months ago
Interesting. Being a movie that doesn't rely on SFX, this was a good demonstration of your skills and how they'd apply here.
Dinah H. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome!
Mateusz M. Posted 7 months ago
good work!
Janelle S. Posted 7 months ago
The young cast is great!
Simon P. Posted 7 months ago
good work
Rick J. Posted 7 months ago
Good stuff!
Dale B. Posted 7 months ago
For such a young cast they really shine and I like how natural they seem in the roles while telling this fun story that I'm looking forward to watching soon. Keep up the good work !!
Richard M. Posted 7 months ago
Great job guys
Jeremy L. Posted 7 months ago
I love your commitment to story. And the importance of telling a great story. With a great cast.
Cinnamon C. Posted 7 months ago
Obviously experience has paid off here. This was not an amateur production. I like that you used real youth for actors and not adults pretending to be teenagers. Fantastic!
Candice M. Posted 7 months ago
Great skills for sure
Michelle G. Posted 7 months ago
well edited and put together - good info about experience and how that will cut costs.
Susan C. Posted 7 months ago
Sounds like its about putting together a good team.
Akash S. Posted 7 months ago
You guys are more than capable to make this under 1 million, i'd love to see this film in theatres!
Glenn L. Posted 7 months ago
I'm looking forward to seeing the movie.
Annelise L. Posted 7 months ago
I'm totally convinced these guys can pull this off. Love the story, love the gamers. Count me in!
Jane M. Posted 7 months ago
Well done - I'd really like to see this movie.
Fabien W. Posted 7 months ago
I like the confidence and professionalism. On my top 3 so far.
Leslie H. Posted 7 months ago
Couldn't agree more. No amount of special effects can ever trump a great story. And as someone who spends most of their day in a room of 25 grade 9s, I can confidently say, "you guys nailed it!"
Afzal H. Posted 7 months ago
You guys have great skills. The footage from previous productions truly show your talents and the potential to achieve great visual content. Looking forward to seeing this film come to life. This is one of the favourite projects!
Jennifer C. Posted 7 months ago
I think this could be an interesting movie
Dennis B. Posted 7 months ago
looks like a story worth watching, and doable within the bugetary constraints. Looking forward to watching it with my sons, and explaining Dungeons and Dragons to them :)
Shawn L. Posted 7 months ago
I like hearing about the collaborative nature of this show
Ann W. Posted 7 months ago
Great to recognize the gym and soccer field!
Zach L. Posted 7 months ago
Those are some good points, it seems like you guys would make really efficient use of your budget.

simple and straight to the point. Nice!
Jacquie G. Posted 7 months ago
you guys are superstars ! good work!
Andrew I. Posted 7 months ago
Definately scored with the actors here
Timothy C. Posted 7 months ago
Didn't quite catch much of the cost saving techniques that you'd use, however great video and pretty convincing despite that! I'm still looking forward to seeing if this film gets produced!
Tony S. Posted 7 months ago
Shoot a great looking movie. Hard to argue with that.
Jordan N. Posted 7 months ago
best thing is evaluating what you have like today and games and being able to use that without going out of your way to get these things
David M. Posted 7 months ago
Seems like you've got all the parts necessary to make a great film. Looking forward to it.
June B. Posted 7 months ago
Good video. The visual tricks will be required for the fight scenes. Not sure where else they will come into play.
Todd M. Posted 7 months ago
Was hoping to see more of the cost cutting aspects of the film. The film looks great, but it just seemed like it was mostly showcasing your DP's demo reel...
Kiran R. Posted 7 months ago
very good video! i really liked it!
Jane H. Posted 7 months ago
I agree, you don't need a lot of money to shoot something, but you didn't tell us anything new.
Samantha L. Posted 7 months ago
This sounded a bit too much like the pitch and was less creative in it's format. I like what you're saying but I think you missed the mark on this mission.
Jeff U. Posted 7 months ago
Not really a trick but interesting nonetheless.
Nelson L. Posted 7 months ago
Ya boyz! Lovin' that so many of the Vancouver submissions have tight, well thought out stories and teams with real world film industry experience. I'm part of Third Wave, and am equally excited by these other projects.
Tyler M. Posted 7 months ago
ok great, a lot of info, in general, but you didn't share any specific thing, please try to complete the mission next time. Transmission
John K. Posted 7 months ago
Agreeing with Daniel... sometimes the best way to conserve budget is to shoot a project that doesn't require a huge budget
Daniel H. Posted 7 months ago
I think the concept lends itself to a practical, lower budget style of filmmaking. Nice work.
Jeremy B. Posted 7 months ago
Good approach to the mission for a film that doesn't need a lot of special effects.
Stephanie K. Posted 7 months ago
Interesting...but wasn't the pitch supposed to be last week?
Vish P. Posted 7 months ago
Looks very professional !
B K Singh R. Posted 7 months ago

Sheleena B. Posted 7 months ago

Jason M. Posted 7 months ago

courtney n. Posted 7 months ago
You guys are one of the most professional groups on here. I hope you guys go far, as you truly deserve it
Etz B. Posted 7 months ago
Very professional video. But there was very little take away for someone with lesser experience than the team imo.
Kevin P. Posted 7 months ago
Very professional guys.
Brent L. Posted 7 months ago
looks good
Lew D. Posted 7 months ago
This is one of the slickest, most impressive vids here.
sue g. Posted 7 months ago
I know these guys will deliver. They are committed and passionate about they do. This IS what they do and their audiences will be rewarded with something pretty fantastic! Go team go!

Excellent work! Love the young actors--so perfect! (Team Rosalind Revenge)
Kelly G. Posted 7 months ago
Uhh guys, the pitch was last week...
Melanie K. Posted 7 months ago
did you already shoot the film? because if you did all that just for the trailer, i have every confidence you can finish this film for 1 million and still have enough to pay for a tux for the prom.
Marnie D. Posted 7 months ago
So Excited (:
Julia Richard M. Posted 7 months ago
Excellent job guys. Can not wait to see the whole movie for sure.
Jac r. Posted 7 months ago
